2012: First Science Olympiad in Switzerland

On Saturday, January 24, several young volunteers accompanied this year’s semifinalists of the Swiss Philosophy Olympiad to the Zurich Philosophy Festival. Special guests at the festival were Filipa Lüthy and Joshua Freiermuth, last year’s winners of SPO.

A new IT assistant started working at the Science Olympiad office this week. Among other things, he will be working with the volunteers on the OlyPortal. We asked Nicolas a few questions to get to know him better.

The Gymnase de Bussigny has been awarded the 2025 Newcomer School Award. This award honours the highest increase in participation in the Science Olympiads. Mr Daniel Gardini and Ms Célia Pittet talk about promoting Olympiads and other extracurricular activities at their school in Vaud.

What do umbrellas, mirages, and paramagnetic crystals have in common? All of these were topics of study during the second round of the Physics Olympiad, which took place on January 14.

On January 15, 56 young philosophers attended the semifinals, which took place simultaneously in four locations.

At the workshop on the Swiss Science Prizes Marcel Benoist und Latsis in November, we asked participants who or what inspires them. With their answers, we are now launching the new annual theme of the Science Olympiad: “Look up!”
