Registration

Registration Process

When using the OlyPortal for the first time, you will be asked to register and create an account. One-time registration is sufficient – your access remains valid. You can proceed as follows:

  1. Please go to the website portal.olympiad.ch
  2. Click on “Register / Login”
  3. You will be redirected to the edu-ID login page
If you do not yet have an edu-ID account, you can create one directly
If you already have an edu-ID account, you can log in using it
  4. Once your edu-ID login is successful, you will be asked to choose between “Participant” and “Teacher.” Please note that this selection will be directly linked to your edu-ID account and cannot be changed later
  5. In a final step, you will be asked to complete your OlyPortal account

edu-ID

The edu-ID is a digital educational identity and is primarily used for academic purposes in Switzerland. The edu-ID is tied to the individual user and serves for authentication.

How do I create an edu-ID?

Account registration takes place in four steps:

  1. Go to the SWITCH edu-ID registration page
  2. Enter your name, email address, and a password
  3. After creating the account, you will receive a confirmation email
  4. Click on the confirmation link in the email to activate your account

It is particularly important that you provide an email address to which you will have long-term access, so that you can log in easily in the future.

Teachers

Class Link

Class_overviewIn OlyPortal, you can easily create your own class as a teacher.

  1. Once you have given your class a name, an individual class link will automatically be generated.
  2. Copy this link and send it to your students – it is important that students create their own OlyPortal account before joining your class via the class link.
  3. In your class overview, you can then see which students have successfully joined your class via the link.

Paper Exam

Paper exams are conducted by the Mathematics and Physics Olympiads.

Mathematics Olympiad

As a teacher, you have the option to request a printable version of the exams.

  1. Send an email to the Mathematics Olympiad.
  2. The association will send you a print version of the exam and answer sheets, which you can print and give to your students.
  3. After the answer sheets have been filled out, you can send them either scanned by email to the association or by post to the following address by the end of the first round:
Science Olympiad, Hochschulstrasse 6, 3012 Bern

Please ensure that the scans are of good quality and have a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Physics Olympiads

As part of the annual school mailing, the Physics Olympiad sends printed templates and a return envelope for the exam by post. If you would like to receive these materials, please register for the school mailing no later than July 15 and indicate your request for the exam on paper in the message field of the registration form.

You can return the completed answer sheets either scanned via email to the association or by post using the enclosed return envelope by the end of the first round. For digital submissions, please ensure good scan quality with a resolution of at least 300 dpi.

Results

As a teacher, you have the opportunity to view the results of your students in OlyPortal. The students must have registered to your class via the class link. You can view the general point distribution, the score achieved by your students, and whether they advance to the next round. Depending on the Olympiad, different information about the results may be published.

However, you will not have the opportunity to view the individual exam answers or the number of points your students received for each question.

Participants

You can either participate independently, without the support of a teacher, online, or participate with the support of a teacher either via a class link (online) or through a paper exam.

Participation without a Teacher

After registering as a participant, you can take part in the Olympiad exam online directly. You simply need to select the desired Olympiad and participate in the first round.

Participation with a Teacher – Online

  1. Your teacher creates a class via their own account and sends you the class link.
  2. Register yourself as a participant in OlyPortal and then click on the link you received from your teacher. After that, you can take the exam online.

Participation with a Teacher – Paper Exam

Paper exams are conducted by the Mathematics and Physics Olympiads. Your teacher contacts the relevant association and receives the exam in printing format. You will then take the exam on paper. Afterwards, your teacher can submit the answer sheets.

Use of AI and Other Tools

The use of artificial intelligence (AI) and other tools is regulated individually by each Olympiad. You may be asked after your exam whether you used any aids or AI. Depending on the rules of the respective Olympiad, you may be excluded from the official ranking in this case.

Results

As soon as the results are published, you will be notified by email by the Olympiad. You can view the results directly in your OlyPortal profile. Depending on the Olympiad, different information about the results may be published.

Set a Reminder

As a participant, you have the option to set a reminder for each Olympiad. Click on the bell icon to activate the notification. This way, you will be contacted directly by email by the Olympiad and will not miss any news.

Accessibility and Compensation for Disadvantages

You can apply for individual compensation for disabilities at the Olympiads. Currently, it is possible to receive additional exam time if you need it due to special circumstances. Please contact the respective Olympiad by email.
Other forms of compensation of disadvantages – such as alternative exam formats or supportive tools – are being planned and will be introduced at a later date.
We are aware that fair participation conditions are important for everyone and are continuously working to expand the range of support options. Thank you for your patience and understanding.
